abstractsOsteopontin (OPN), a glycoprotein expressed by various tissues and cells, has multiple variant forms following post-translational modification, which may explain its broad range of functions. Through interaction with different receptors, OPN can mediate cell adhesion, migration, tumor invasion and antiapoptotic effects, and participate in the regulation of T helper cell lineages (including Th17 cells). In cutaneous infection, OPN enhances immune responses against Mycobacteria and viruses. Secreted or overexpressed in autoimmune diseases and psoriasis, OPN also affects inflammation and granuloma formation caused by immediate and delayed hypersensitivity reaction. In-depth research on OPN may provide new therapeutic approaches to skin diseases.
