Expression of CD69+ T lymphocytes in psoriatic lesions and its clinical significance

abstractsObjective To measure the expression of CD69+ T lymphocytes in skin lesions of patients with psoriasis, and to explore its relationship with disease activity. Methods Lesional and non-lesional skin samples were collected from 31 patients with psoriasis, and normal skin samples obtained from 6 healthy individuals served as controls.Immunohistochemical staining was performed to measure the expression of CD69+ T lymphocytes in these skin samples. Results CD69+ T lymphocytes were mainly distributed in the dermis. The percentage of CD69+ T lymphocytes was significantly higher in lesional skin than in non-lesional skin (35.16% ± 12.67% vs.8.70% ± 3.29%,t =12.5,P < 0.01),higher in lesional skin from 20 patients with acute psoriasis than in that from 11 patients with stable psoriasis (40.89% ± 10.31% vs.24.46% ± 9.49%,t =0.36,P < 0.01),but significantly lower in normal control skin than in lesional skin (8.71% ± 2.55% vs.35.16% ± 12.67%,t =5.03,P < 0.01),and insignificantly different between normal control skin and nonlesional skin (t =0.05,P > 0.05).Conclusion The expression of CD69+ T lymphocytes is markedly increased in psoriatic lesions, which may be associated with disease activity.
