摘要The plant microbiome plays a vital role in crop health, resilience, and productivity, orchestrating nutrient cycling, disease resis-tance,and stress tolerance(Compant et al.,2025).Recently,Ge and Wang proposed two strategies to manipulate these microbial communities by plant breeding and designing inoculants(Ge and Wang,2025).As chemotaxis plays a central role in plant-microbe interactions,it enables microbes to detect and respond to chemical cues from the plant.By influencing how microbes assemble in the rhizosphere, chemotactic behavior offers a promising avenue for crop improvement. Here,we propose a chemotaxis-driven crop engineering strategy, which involves tailoring plant root exudates to recruit beneficial microbes while repelling pathogens. The aim of this strategy is to construct smart rhizosphere microbiomes that promote sustainable plant growth and disease suppression.
