abstractsSelenoproteins,the essential biomolecules associated with antioxidant effects, are involved in diverse inflammatory diseases. Selenoprotein S (SelS), also kown as Tanis or VIMP, is a novel glucose-regulated protein. As a putative receptor for serum amyloid protein A, the acute phase protein, SelS is a link between type 2 diabetes and inflammation. Also, its gene polymorphisms are associated with inflammatory diseases. Furthermore, it could protect cells from stress injury induced by stressers, regulate the redox balance of cells,and play an important role in the processing and removal of misfolded proteins. Thus, SelS may be the breakthrough of the prophylaxis and treatment of the inflammatory diseases.
