abstractsPaired box 6(Pax6),a critical transcription factor,plays an important role in the development of eye,central nerve system and endocrine pancreas in mammals.It has been demonstrated that heterozygous mutation in Pax6 gene is associated with abnormal glucose metabolism.The role of Pax6 gene in the development of pancreatic islets as well as in the maintenance of glueose homeostasis is discussed in this article.
