Structural Segmentation and Job-Hunting Behavior:An Empirical Study of the Unemployed Workers in Shanghai
摘要Based on the data from a survey of the job-hunting experiences of the unemployed workers in Shanghai, this paper examined the impact of the work units (dan wei) and sectors that were in transition as a function of the structural segmentation on the job-hunting behavior of the unemployed. In the context with the redistribution system moving toward the market-regulated system, the effects of the structural segmentation, with dan wei as its basic criterion units, were found to be significant. Not only did the structural segmentation influence the probability for a job-seeker's success in obtaining a job but also the nature of the job as well as possible career rank change for the job-seeker.
