摘要篇首: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia among the elderly. Its incidence increases dramatically with increasing age and decreasing left ventricular function, peaking in subjects with overt congestive heart failure.1 Because of the unsatisfactory efficacy and possible serious side effects of clinically available anti-AF drugs for AF patients with sick sinus syndrome, pacing techniques have recently been applied in the treatment of AF. The cardiac pacemaker Vitatron Selection 900E has special AF diagnostic and prophylactic therapy algorithms. The objective of this study was to use the diagnostic information concerning the onset mechanisms of AF to program the preventive pacing algorithms for each patient individually and to find out whether a reduction in AF burden could be achieved.
