Successful management of an incarcerated left-sided Amyand's hernia in a 63-year-old male

摘要Amyand's hernia refers to the presence of appendix within an inguinal hernia sac.In 1736,Claudius Amyand,a surgeon to King George Ⅱ,first reported this special type of inguinal hernia during a transherniotomy appendectomy of an 11-year-old boy with a right inguinal hernia.The finding of a normal appendix within an inguinal hernia sac is not uncommon.Its incidence is about 1％,whereas the presence of appendicitis within an inguinal hernia has an incidence of only 0.1％.1 Moreover,given the normal anatomical position of the appendix,most cases occur on the right side.
