摘要篇首： The Chinese characters寒and热, 虚and实are quite common concepts in Chinese language. However in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), they are used as four principles in syndrome differentiation. In terms of translation, 寒and热are very easy to understand and can be simply translated as "cold" and "heat". But the translation of虚and实used to be a problem.
